A B O U T T H E W O R K
Primarily working in oils, I explore impermanence, growth, and renewal. Elements from nature are used as a visual metaphor for these phases of change throughout the figurative and still life scenes in my work.
The still lives often take on the humanistic, gestural expressiveness of figures. In the midst of these emotional and mental adaptations, the figures themselves are shown in a variety of introspective states, unaware of the viewer’s gaze. Interior settings begin to feel surreal with fabrics and colors evocative of streams and skies. When placed in composed exterior landscapes, figures can take on the appearance of nymphs in mythological narratives.
Aspects of melancholy, romance, and fragility speak through the poses of the figure, floral arrangements, symbols, and color schemes. The paintings describe elements that are a part of everyone’s inner world and they mean what your response is to them. Whether it be a figurative or still life scene, the tender, mysterious, and emotive content displays human vulnerability.
